A meeting with President Bronisław Komorowski opened a two-day meeting of European business leaders - the Council of Presidents BUSINESSEUROPE, the biggest association of employers in Europe. The main subject of the meeting is the economic crisis within the European Union and the euro area. It was organized by the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan.

Through its members, BUSINESSEUROPE represents more than 20 million small, medium and large companies employing some 120 million people in Europe. Despite continuing economic uncertainty and financial market instability, many of these companies remain positive about long-term growth prospects. They are seeking to invest in new plant or technologies and to expand into new markets.

On the last day of the European Forum for New Ideas business representatives signed the declaration for the bright future of European Union. The document was handled in to Polish Prime Minister, European Parliament President and President of the European Council.

Together we have an opportunity to create the Europe of our dreams and capabilities. We have a chance to build Europe based on solidarity and enhanced integration. The European Union, which was created to avoid conflicts, has changed the face of the continent and become an inspiring project for several European generations.

The draft of the national budget for 2012 is economically correct and possible to execute provided that some optimistic assumptions are fulfilled. It addresses the challenge of filling up the gap on STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics) skills in Europe. The publication also reports on how individual European countries are affected by the problem and the role of business in finding solutions. Finally a checklist reminds business, governments and education policy-makers of action to be undertaken. The publication was presented and widely distributed at the European Business Summit last week, in the presence of Commissioner Andor.
