Men fail to do it as they are convinced about persistence of the patriarchal world, although its foundations are increasingly unstable today. In Poland there are plentiful of men but very few partners." - said professor Magdalena Środa, ethicist and philosopher.

Irene Natividad, President Global Summit of Women emphasized once again the sense of the concept named womenomics: „...women are gaining more purchasing power on the market and thus becoming a valuable consumer group, yet they constitute a well-educated labour force, so demanded in today's business world" - she claimed. „The crisis is due to men. They are more prone to risk and gadget purchasing. Women also take risk, however they act reasonably. Mixed management boards provide compromise opportunities." - said Teresa Kamińska, President of the Pomerania Special Economic Zone.
Men's world is not coming to an end. Women's world is gaining power and this is an encouraging sign. Let's hope that current changes between these two worlds will lead to equilibrium and equality.
Is pilot onboard? Future of the aviation market in Europe
The aviation industry will be subject to consolidation, further reduction of expenses on business activities, increase of competitiveness and introduction of new technologies - emphasized panel's participants. Jacek Krawczyk, Vice President of the European Economic and Social Committee heralded that the aviation industry will face up serious technological challenges. In his opinion this market has become extremely competitive and that's why everybody is looking for cost-cutting e.g. in the area of fuel consumption.
According to Helga A. Griesbeck, Managing Director for Marketing in Europe and Africa, Boeing Company, the aviation industry will rise long-term. Carriers in Europe may optimistically look ahead and the Polish market will develop more dynamically as compared to other countries. In the years to come, the flight safety and reduction of fuel costs will be of great importance to us.
John Hanlon, General Secretary of the European Low Fares Airline Association states that the industry will get consolidated - „In ten years the market share of the oldest carriers will drop and new connections will appear, e.g. in 2010 over 400 of those was launched. Competitiveness increase in Europe will affect enhancement of service quality, however competition has to be sustainable. The challenges to be met will comprise limitation of the negative influence on the natural environment, biofuel popularisation or market liberalisation, which, on the other hand, may result in overregulation. Unfortunately, the Europe lacks one common sky. It has to be changed immediately."
Krzysztof Krystowski, President of Avio Polska underlined that Asian markets will grow at the fastest pace. In 20 years, only China will build 100 airports. Until 2030 we will need as much as 45 000 new airplanes. It means that the industry will have to manufacture 32 000 brand new aircrafts.
According to Antonio De Palmas, President for UE and NATO Relations, Boeing, the European Union lacks a common approach towards the aviation industry . It is necessary to agree upon issues related to safety or biofuel usage.
For Grzegorz Polaniecki, President of the Management Board, Enter Air, it is important that the aviation industry, as an exceptionally consolidated sector, acts hand in hand. „I also dislike the trade of CO2 emission rights, which will impose additional charge to the carriers. Then, fuel reduction will be impossible. New right will be very expensive and allow for numerous inefficient solutions." - he stated.
Climate: new field of the business game
Participants of the „Climate: new field of the business game" panel debated on its relations with the business area.
„If the objective is a sustainable development, then the global carbon dioxide emission has to be cut down significantly. The energy should be generated in the locations it is used and it enables to make considerable savings and protect the environment. The key issue is also funding sources of proecological businesses." - said William Chandler, President and Founder of Transition Energy.
Ph. D. Sally Uren, Vice President of Forum for the Future said that the local governments, in cooperation with NGOs, shall identify and enforce these tasks, which are necessary for environment and climate protection. For many businesses, the barrier in changing of the business profile is the fact that their customers do not expect green products, provided that, paradoxically, only these companies may attract customers with such goods.
Czesław Grzesiak, Vice President of the Management Board, Tesco Polska, pointed out that in the country, where the consumer awareness is not high, it is difficult to introduce changes in the business operating in the field of environment protection. Fortunately, determination to launch such solutions brought positive results, customers appreciate today.
„Until 2050, our plan provides for total reduction of emission of greenhouse gases related to Tesco operations and, moreover, we assist all our customers in decreasing of their personal involvement into the CO emission. The most essential thing is that these actions allow us to reduce costs in a significant manner." - declared Andrew Hill, Manager for Climate Changes, Tesco Group.
„I believe that business which helps people out in saving some goods always makes sense - said Adam Wilanowski, founder and co-owner of Lediko Walendowski and Wilanowski Sp. Z O.O. „Not all bulk corporations have a modern approach to the environment protection today, and this is a great opportunity for SMEs operating in the area of new technologies." - added a young entrepreneur.
Smart grids
Power industry of the future has been discussed in the course of „Smart grids. Power industry of a new generation" panel. Smart grids systems combine traditional power grids and cutting edge communications and IT technologies. The concept of smart grids dominated the debate on the development of the power transmission and distribution sector in such economic powers as the U.S., China, Brazil and many other highly developer countries. In Europe smart power grids are considered a chance to implement the EU policy on intelligent, sustainable and pro-social growth. Innovativeness (expansion of the modern technologies sector), sustainable development, power efficiency, increase of the power safety and efficient competitiveness - these are the assets they hold. 2011-2012 will be the crucial period for the development of smart grids in Europe, in the light of EU standards, particular implementations and legal solutions approved by the EU Member States. Therefore, the discussion on the model of creation and support of the said grids nationwide and EU-wide as well as the future perspective seems to be important.
Marek Samotyj, Executive Technical Director, EPRI, said that the smart grid has to be self-repairing, interactive, optimum in terms of usage of available resources and infrastructure, predictable, integrated to be joined to all sources and safe.
Marek Woszczyk, President of the Energy Regulatory Office forecasts an ultimately fast expansion of the smart grid technology. He declared to support development of this technology in Poland. This type of work requires bravery to take the decision that this path is proper. Each innovation is related to the uncertainty, yet likewise the progress of the mobile telephony, new technologies may rapidly develop.
However, Ph.D. Bartosz Wojszczyk, Global Smart Grid Technical Leader for GE Energy warned to consider this change a process, long-term investment. Professor Andrzej Wiszniewski of Wrocław Technical University appealed not to force recipients to generate additional costs. Therefore it is necessary to indicate advantages of the smart grid so to make the recipient understand it.
From the perspective of operators, Rafał Czyżewski, Vice President of Energa-Operator concluded that the task to be carried out now is to prepare the network for the smart grid revolution.
